Schumacher recently asked to be ’3′ in 2010, because of his luck with odd numbers. But he isn’t the only person/team to be passionate about squiggles.

Ferrari

After the tragic death of Gilles Villeneuve, the legacy was carried forward as the Maranello team insisted on keeping 27 and 28 on the cars, Jean Alesi having a famous win in 27 on Gilles home turf. This finally ended when Schumi brought 1 with him from Benetton as world champion, and the numbers have had the championship system ever since

Number 0

Even the number 0 has been used, when the champion retires and the team has no right to use it. It didn’t bring in the luck for Damon Hill, who was the only driver to use it.

The only numbers that haven’t been used between 0-136 have been, 96, 100, 106, 132. Even 208 was used, for Lella Lombardi. What’s in a number?

Bahrain

Bahrain has been renevated for the 2010 season opener, but will it be any good? As the picture at the bottom shows, it now incorporates the outer loop that is used for junior formula racing to shorten the circuit. This will make the lap times more like 1:44, 1:45.

Is that a good thing? I think not…Bahrain has an unfortunate track record of precessions, and won’t a longer track add to the agony? Even a brillian 2008 season couldn’t make the race one to remember.

I’m afraid that the race will slowly sink into nothingness, but for the moment, we have to put up with it. At least it won’t be as bad as Abu Dhabi!
